Section 0. Background Information
  1. AVG AntiVirus 
    • AVG Technologies provides a number of products from the AVG range, suitable for Windows 2000 onwards. In addition to this, AVG Technologies also provides Linux, FreeBSD, and most recently Mac OS X versions of the software.

  2. Lab Notes
    • In this lab we will do the following:
      1. Download AVG
      2. Install AVG
      3. Update the AVG Scanner
      4. Scanning the Windows 7 Machine

Section 1. Start your Windows 7 VM
  1. Edit Virtual Machine Settings
    • Instructions
      1. Click on Windows 7
      2. Click on Edit virtual machine

     

  2. Configure Network Adapter
    • Instructions
      1. Select Network Adapter
      2. Click the radio button "Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network."
      3. Click the Okay button

     

  3. Start Windows 7
    • Instructions
      1. Click on Windows 7
      2. Click on Play virtual machine

     

Section 2. Login to Windows 7
  1. Login
    • Instructions:
      1. Enter Password
      2. Click the Blue Arrow

 

Section 3. Verify you have a Network IP Address
  1. Bring up Command Prompt
    • Instructions:
      • Start --> Command Prompt

     

  2. Verify IP Address
    • Instructions:
      1. ipconfig
    • Notes:
      • In my case, my IP Address is 192.168.1.105.
      • In your case, your IP Address will be different.

 

Section 4. Install AVG
  1. Bring up Command Prompt
    • Instructions:
      • Start --> Command Prompt

     

  2. Open Internet Explorer
    • Instructions:
      1. Click the Start Button
      2. Type "Internet Explorer" in the search box
      3. Click on Internet Explorer

     

  3. Go to the AVG Download Site
    • Instructions:
      1. Paste the following website address in the URI box.
        • http://free.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-download
      2. Click the AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 Download Button

     

  4. File Download
    • Instructions:
      1. Click the Green Download Now Button
      2. Click Run

     

  5. User Account Control
    • Instructions:
      1. Click Yes

     

  6. Initialization Installation
    • Note:
      1. AVG is just preparing your environment for installation.
      2. Continue to next step

     

  7. AVG 2013 Installer
    • Instructions:
      1. Please select your language:  English
      2. Click Next

     

  8. AVG Legal Agreement
    • Instructions:
      1. Click Accept

     

  9. Select your product
    • Instructions:
      1. Click the Basic Protection radio button
      2. Click Next

     

  10. Select type of installation
    • Instructions:
      1. Click the Express Install
      2. Click Next

     

  11. Install AVG Security Toolbar
    • Instructions:
      1. Uncheck both checkboxes
      2. Select Next

     

  12. Install Progress
    • Note:
      1. Basically, you will just wait until you get the standard completion messages.
      2. Continue to Next Step.

     

  13. Congratulations
    • Instructions:
      1. It is NOT necessary to supply information.
      2. Uncheck the check box.
      3. Click Finish

 

Section 5. Update AVG Definitions
  1. Your are not fully protected!
    • Instructions:
      1. Click the "Click to fix it"

     

  2. User Account Control
    • Instructions:
      1. Click Yes

     

  3. Update Completed Successfully
    • Note:
      1. In the low right corner you should see the message "Update Completed Successfully."
      2. Continue to Next Step.

 

Section 6. Scan System
  1. Scan Now
    • Instructions:
      1. Click Scan Now

     

  2. Scanning
    • Note:
      1. You should see that your system is being scanned.

 

Section 6. Proof of Lab
  1. Proof of Lab Instructions
    • Instructions:
      1. Bring up a command prompt
      2. cd C:\Program Files
      3. dir | findstr "AVG"
      4. date
      5. Press <Enter>
      6. echo "Your Name"
        • Replace the string "Your Name" with your actual name.
        • e.g., echo "John Gray"
      7. Do a PrtScn
      8. Paste into a word document
      9. Upload to Moodle
